Evolution to Villainhood: Natural Selection Chose the Worst of Us

When Darwin looked upon the earth, clothed in its majestic beauty and magnificence, he refused to believe that species roaming on it were simply summoned into existence by a Supreme being, as held by the creation theory.

“No, something more sophisticated must be at play here.” He must have thought.

On the infamous Beagle voyage, he made observations that satisfied his curiosity on the origins of life. And thus he dedicated his life to the the theory of evolution by natural selection.

Darwin’s theory can be fundamentally summarized as follows – the best adapted survive. This means that animals and plants will adapt to survive in their surroundings.

According to the theory, the ostrich was once capable of flight. But since most of its food is on the ground, it had to develop long legs for running, hence passing up the ability to fly.

Apparently, natural selection favored long legs and rejected long wings, so that the bird could feed effectively. So the ostrich was grounded.

To the religious person, the theory of evolution sounds like baseless ideology, crafted to discredit creation as the origin of all life.

Now lets forget about evolution of species for a minute and consider the evolution of mannerisms.

Maybe the theory of evolution holds true for humans in positions of power, particularly in this country.

Doesn’t it baffle, just how much this country reeks of deceit, corruption and a hoard of other evils?

Could it be that this is a result of us evolving to become more evil? Because it would be a perfect explanation.

We know from the theory of evolution that species adapt; modify; change or adjust to survive their surroundings.

Now picture that we are surrounded by this imperfect system, where to survive and thrive, one has to indulge in misconduct.

Evolution of ethics

Being subject to evolution, our ethics slowly change to align to the way of the system.

As natural selection takes course, misconduct and malpractice become indoctrined in the genetic code of our ethics.

Natural selection always works for the surrounding (in this case the system). It picks out traits that promise the best chances of survival and rejects the rest.

So it seems that natural selection has picked the worst of ethics and rejected good ethics.

And everyone who enters and thrives in the public workforce space somehow bears the marker of malpractice, corruption and deceit.

Evidently, natural selection has chosen the worst of us. And so our species in leadership places have evolved to villainhood.

Although there is a remmnant left, they are only a tiny fraction and often times have little power to effect changes.

Someone needs to break this vile genetic code that has been written into our ethics.

We shouldn’t have to assimilate to the corruption and deceit that runs deep in the system.

If we allow ourselves to be subjects of the system’s evolution, we may all turn to villains.

The system needs a hard reset. But who is capable of such a feat?
