Hakawii by Kambua and J Blessing: Lyrics & Song Review

Hakawii by Kambua and J Blessing expresses the longing and struggle of a soul waiting on God on the one hand, and the revelation of God’s faithfulness on the other hand – upon fruition of the wait.

The season of waiting can be one of the most trying in a believer’s life. Faith is put to the test. Can you still believe in God in the midst of tears, when He seems silent? Can you stand up for your faith in the face of unanswered prayers, while people mock?

The posture of a waiting heart is that of unwavering faith, just as Abraham believed against all odds. But difficulty often erodes this heroic faith, and sometimes, it is stories of those who emerged victorious that encourage and spur faith.

Kambua’s journey to motherhood is an exemplary testimony of the love, upholding grace and faithfulness of God, present (though unseen) through the pain of waiting, but visibly evident in the answers to long standing prayers. She pours her heart into the song Hakawii:

Song lyrics

Did you know you can play and listen to the song while you follow through the lyrics:

Sauti Yako haijawahi nyamaza
Nilipoona kimya Wewe ulikuwa ukitenda
Sikuona mlango ukifunguka
Lakini ulituma neema kabla ya mlango kuonekana
Nilifikiri umeniacha
Lakini ulikuwa karibu kuliko pumzi
Wakati wangu ulikuwa mpangoni
Na jina lako likawa sahihi kwa saa zote

We ni Mungu wa ahadi
Na si mdogo wa miujiza
Majira Yako ni ya milele
Na moyo Wako hausahau

Hakawii Mungu wangu hakawii
Kila chozi lina majira
Na kilio kina sauti Yake
Hakawii hakawii
Yuko sahihi hata nisipoelewa

Wengine walicheka nikiwa nangoja
Wakaniambia mbona hajibu kama Yupo
Lakini sasa naona kwa macho ya roho
Hakuna hasara kwa anayemngojea Bwana
Nililia bila majibu
Nikafunga bila kuona ishara
Lakini moyo wangu haukuwahi kuwa pweke
Kwa sababu polepole alinijenga kuwa shahidi

Wakati Wake ni ushuhuda wangu
Haandiki kwa haraka
Ahadi Zake ni za milele
Hakawii
Na anajua kila dakika ya machozi yangu

Hakawii Mungu wangu hakawii
Kila chozi lina majira
Na kilio kina sauti Yake
Hakawii hakawii
Yuko sahihi hata nisipoelewa

Hakawii Mungu wangu hakawii
Kila chozi lina majira
Na kilio kina sauti Yake
Hakawii hakawii
Yuko sahihi hata nisipoelewa

Song review

Main themes

Hakawii by Kambua is built on the following themes:

  • The struggle of waiting on God
  • God’s timing
  • God’s faithfulness

Scriptural references

The struggle of waiting on God

When the wait gets too long, we often construe it as delay, silence from God, even abandonment by God. By so doing, we lose sight of the character of God – His unfailing love, unending mercies, and unwavering faithfulness.

But even in our weakness of heart, the grace of God upholds us more. O that we would be able to see His goodness in the face of suffering, and believe without a doubt!

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭36:7‬ ‭NIV

‬‬[7] How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭KJV

‬‬[9] And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

God’s Timing

We may never comprehend the reasons behind God’s timing. His ways are above ours, and His thoughts far superior. In His wisdom, He appoints times and seasons for everything, and He is never late or early. Waiting on God takes unquestioned trust in His timing

When Lazarus fell ill, Jesus did not rush to see him, but instead held on for two days. Eventually, Lazarus died, then Jesus rose him from the dead. This was done to firm up the belief of the disciples and followers.

God does not delay, instead, He works out everything for His glory.

‭‭John‬ ‭11:6‬ ‭KJV

‬‬[6] When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

[14] Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

[15] And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭2:3‬ ‭KJV

‬‬[3] For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

God’s faithfulness

Despite whatever happens around us, God remains faithful to His promises. Nothing could ever change this.

‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

[14] And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

[9] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Audience

Hakawii is a good fit for individual edification.
