Nichunguze by Nyasha Ngoloma ft Neema Gospel Choir explores human communion with God—the brokenness of heart that engulfs when sin or hardship break or obscure oneness with God, and the plea of the sorrowful heart for restoration of communion.
Devoid of the presence of God, life becomes hollow, yet it happens so often that in our struggle with the weakness of the flesh, we go wayward, and the precious presence departs. In such times, Nichunguze helps lift a plea of mercy for the presence of God, and seek His refinement.
In His presence is fullness of joy, and life in abundance. When we falter, He is worth seeking, and when times are hard, He must be sought more.

Brokenness, sorrow and repentance
Sin bears down on a believer with guilt, sorrow and the agony of alienation from God. When it falls, the repentant heart, remorseful for wrongdoing will always seek a way back to God. He is the dwelling place for the believer, and away from Him, nothing satisfies.
Sometimes, it may be difficulty that brings about a perceived abandonment by God. Either way, the broken spirit longs to be in communion with God. In such times, may our hearts be reminded of this: nothing can separate us from the love of God.
While it may feel as if God is far away, His love remains unfailing and unremoved, and even better – were it not for His mercy, we’d all be consumed. Christ embodies God’s love for anyone in post-sin remorse or facing difficulty – through him we are redeemed.
David, after adultery with Bathsheba, and grievous murder of Urea appeals through God’s mercy, and lovingkindness for cleansing. This same plea is seen on the song Nichunguze by Nyasha Ngoloma ft Neema Gospel Choir
Psalm 51:1, 17 KJV
[1] Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
[17] The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Surrender and reliance on God
As a believer, one is in a state of constant dependence on God, and this brings about surrender to Him – trusting Him in all things, abiding by His ways, and when we fall, running back to Him. John 15 gives a depiction of the extent of our reliance on God – we cannot achieve anything apart from Him:
John 15:5 KJV [5] I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Depravity: struggle with the flesh
The song on the second verse bears an admission of moral weakness and the conflict every believer contends with: between the desire to do good and the tendency to sin. This points to the depravity of the human nature under the law, and the absolute dependance on grace needed to overcome. Victory is found in Christ, not in our effort to satisfy the law.
Romans 7:18-19, 24, 25 KJV
[18] For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
[19] For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
[24] O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
[25] I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
Sin and the divine purpose
Sin could never thwart the purposes of God, for He is sovereign over all things. The ultimate plan of God will always prevail, but sin will have consequences on individual paths, more so to rhe unrepentant. Consider Saul, whose disobedience took away the kingdom from his lineage. He was never repentant of his sin. The kingdom was instead given to David, and from his generation came the Messiah.
David seemingly committed proportionately greater sins of murder and adultery, but he turned away from sin with great remorse, seeking mercy from God. The posture of his heart was that of repentance and continual reliance on God. His path was altered – he did not build the temple, but God accomplished this through Solomon, his son.
In the advent of the cross, Christ is the substitution for our sins — He bore all of sin’s consequences and gave us grace that renews us. As David looked up and sought mercy, we must always look to the cross for redemption and renewal, but never dwell in sin or rebellion. God is faithful to forgive and accomplish what he began in us.
Proverbs 19:21 KJV
[21] There are many devices in a man's heart; Nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
1 Peter 2:24 KJV
[24] who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Hebrews 12:2 KJV
[2] looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
God’s presence: ever-present, inescapable
We could never run or hide away from God’s overwhelming presence. Even in our most fallen state, He is there. Rather, we ought to run to Him, because nothing, not even sin can separate us from His love, which readily awaits us.
Psalm 139:7-8 KJV
[7] Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
[8] If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
Romans 8:38-39 KJV
[38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
[39] nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God’s refining
God knows the deepest of our thoughts, none are hidden from Him. He searches within our deceptive hearts, and is able to not only to convict us of wicked ways, but also to chasten us for refinement according to His will
Psalm 139:23-24 KJV
[23] Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts:
[24] And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
Hebrews 12:6, 9 KJV
[6] For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
[9] Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Song lyrics

Nimekuja na moyo uliobondeka
Ninahisi ni kama umeuficha
Uso wako na uwepo wako
Nanyenyekea nimerudi
Naomba tena
Usiufiche uso wako
Nakuomba Ee Bwana
Nakutegemea
Kila wakati ningependa ujue
Kwamba nakuhitaji sana
Kila wakati ningependa ujue kwamba
Kwamba nakuhitaji sana
Nimekubali udhaifu wangu wa mwili
Ninachotaka kufanya sikifanyi
Nisichotaka kufanya ndo zaidi nafanya
Nakuhitaji
Ninarudi kwako naomba unisamehe tena
Usiniache peke yangu nitapotea Bwana
Kisha ulichopanga kufanya kupitia kwangu
Hakitaweza kutimilika
Kusudi lako maishani mwangu
Halitaweza kutimia nitahangaika
Usiufiche uso wako nakuomba tena
Usiniache peke yangu nitapotea Bwana
Kila wakati ningependa ujue kwamba
Nakuhitaji sana
Kila wakati ningependa ujue kwamba
Nakuhitaji sana
Ni wapi ntaenda mbali na Wewe bwana
Hakuna mahali pa kuenda
Ni wapi ntajificha usipoweza kuniona Bwana
Kwa kweli hakuna
Nichunguze unijue Bwana
Yajaribu mawazo yangu Bwana
Na iwapo kuna kitu ndani yangu
Kisichokupendeza ukitoe
Kisha uniongoze Bwana
(Occurs 4 times)
Niende wapi mbali
Niende wapi mbali na Wewe
Hakuna pahali mbali
Niende wapi mbali na Wewe
Kama ni mbinguni
Wewe upo
Kama ni kuzimu
Wewe upo
Mwisho wa bahari
Wewe upo
Na nikiwa gizani
Wewe upo
Bwana uko nami
Wewe upo
Nikiteleza naamini
Wewe upo
Kamwe huniachi
Wewe upo
Unatembea na mimi
Wewe upo
Oh Yesu
Niende wapi mbali
Niende wapi mbali na Wewe
Hakuna pahali mbali
Niende wapi mbali na Wewe
(Ee Bwana umenichunguza na kunijua, Wewe wajua kuketi kwangu na kuondoka kwangu. Umelifahamu wazo langu tokea mbali, umepepeta kwenda kwangu na kulala kwangu. Umeelewa njia zangu zote, maana hamna neno usilolijua Bwana.)
(Ee Mungu unichunguze uujue moyo wangu; unijaribu uyajue mawazo yangu. Uone kama iko njia iletayo majuti ndani yangu; ukaniongoze katika njia ya milele.)
