Song review

Scripture backing

Bwana Ananipigania by Dr. Sarah K draws inspiration from Exodus 14:14:

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

‭Exodus‬ ‭14:14‬ ‭KJV

Exodus 14 recounts the crossing of the Red Sea. Israel is trapped between sea waters and a vast wilderness. Capture looms as Pharaoh and troops advance in their chariots. Fear gripples Israel, and they grumble. But Moses encourages Israel – the Lord shall fight for you.

When tensions run high, it is humanly tempting to dwell on the magnitude of the incumbent troubles, battles or circumstances, rather than look unto God’s ever present help.

The Christian faith demands absolute trust and surrender to God in all circumstances, the lack of which often breeds fear and mumble.

Bwana Ananipigania is a solemn statement of the faith that God is in battle for our sake. We need not dwell in fear, but be at peace. Here goes the chorus:

To further opine

However, it must be reckoned that battles are a necessity of Christian life, key to building faith. God fighting our battles is no guarantee of stay against troubles. Christ assures that troubles will come, but his followers should be of good cheer, since He has overcome.

Bwana Ananipigania should be a reminder to put faith in God, and even if battles do not end as we expect, still glorify Him.

Song audience

The song is a good fit for congregational worship as well as personal edification.
