Spencer Smith: The Man Who Boldly Calls Out Chaff From Grain

I’m trying to force a conversation, telling people to look beyond the esoteric beautiful crystalline voices that you see on stage and the euphoria.

Spencer Smith

We live in times of blatant deception, well crafted into music, sermons and teachings. It’s become easy to masquerade unsound doctrine under the tag of gospel.

Yet so many will approve of any content they see just because it’s tagged as gospel. Well, not Spencer Smith.

This man takes on the bull of false gospel by its horns, armed with a Bible and some wits. He’s got no stomach for anything erroneous.

He is trained in theology and is a missionary working under Lighthouse Baptist Missions. He works in Kenya and the Dominican Republic, helping train national pastors.

Spencer has devoted himself to expose music that is not true gospel. It all goes down on his YouTube channel.

“When I started the channel, I was just basically dealing with the music, but now I’m getting deeper into the apologetics.” This he says, revealing how music has been used as a conduit to popularize false theologies.

According to Spencer, we’ve got to learn to look beyond the musical aspects of a song. What matters is the Biblical background.

“Look beyond all that, cut through all that. Turn your feelings off for just five seconds and use your brain and think Biblically and try to discern what these people are.”

Hillsong United

Among the musicians who have come under a heavy backlash from Spencer is the band Hillsong United, known for it’s popular gospel worship songs like “Oceans” and “So Will I.”

In one of his videos, Spencer covers one of Hillsong’s Christmas celebrations. It’s astonishing to follow through as he unveils what you wouldn’t want to believe.

“At this point nothing surprises me anymore about Hillsong.”

“I mean they could come out there and just start sacrificing goats to Moloch and it wouldn’t surprise me.”

He is making reference here to the use of non-biblical symbolism.

Spencer holds it that Hillsong United is not Christian. Their songs appear Christian, but he says its not about the music.

The songs are a fruition of bad theology, and he warns it may eventually water down one’s theological views.

“You think its all about the music but its not about the music. These people are cultists who have been deceived into thinking they are worshipping Christ,” he says.

Lauren Daigle

Lauren Daigle has been another subject of Spencer’s criticism.

This is especially for her refusal to acknowledge Jesus on her interviews.

You would least expect that someone singing gospel music mentions about Jesus, often.

Third Adam

Aside from issues music, Spencer Smith has delved into modern day theological issues in a series he calls ‘Third Adam‘ on YouTube and podcast networks.

The end of the matter…

Well, one thing is for sure, that anything that does not conform to the word of God should not be called gospel, at all.

It’s heresy.

We must learn to scrutinize every media purported to be Christian through the scriptures.
