Ubhaghile by Agape Gospel Band: Song Review & Lyrics

A psalmic song of praise, Ubhaghile by Agape Gospel Band, brings out a joyous acclamation for the wondrous deeds of God in a Rhumba style.

The song lifts praise to the God, joyfully expressing faith in His power, that only He is able, and so deserving of our praise forever.

For His countless great deeds, and attributes revealed in His power, love, mercy, and forbearance, no words could ever suffice to describe Him. Therefore, we praise in song to Him, in awe of His being.

As this song goes, all praise and honor we ascribe to the Son of God, “Sifa ni zako, utukufu ni wako, ubhaghile Mwana gwa Kyala.”

Song review

Meaning of ‘Ubaghile’ and origins

Ubhaghile is a Nyakyusa word meaning ‘You are able’ or ‘Unaweza’ in Swahili. The Nyakusa people are a Bantu speaking tribe from Tanzania and Malawi.

The song Ubhaghile by Agape Gospel Band is the second title bearing the same song name, after Dr. Ipyana and Ambwene Mwasongwe’s, released in 2020. The latter was an off-shoot translation from a popular praise hymn in Swahili, ‘Unaweza Mwana Wa Mungu.”

Scripture backing

Being a psalmic song of praise, Ubhaghile by Agape Gospel Band draws inspiration from multiple scripture, most notably Psalm 145:1-2:

Psalm 145:1-2 (NIV)

I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever.

Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.

The first two verses of the song borrow from the above Psalm.

This Psalm is attributed to King David, synonymous with praise all across the Bible.

David was a prolific king, a man of valor, mighty expert at war, marked by numerous exploits, but most of all, he was a man after God’s own heart.

Even with his glamorous abilities and achievements, David continually acknowledged God, sought for His guidance, looked upon Him in times of trouble.

Such a life lived towards God would undoubtedly yield praise out of a joyful and thankful heart, not only for His deeds, but also His being.

Praise ought to be an expression of gratitude, and absolute confidence in God, coming out as a response to the goodness of God. Such a genuine response will be evoked by faith, from knowing God and being in communion with Him.

Ubhaghile should challenge believers to a faithful walk with God, one that will spur our hearts to praise at all times.
