Smile

They say a smile

is the curve that makes life straight

Now, let me share with you this little sparkle

Give me your minutes, a couple

A genuine smile rarely comes by these days

But when it does, it is the ultimate show of happiness

Happiness emanating from within

It’s the glitter of the human being

Some smiles amaze me… how genuine they are

and the funny thing is that they are fetched from the nigh not afar

Not from being called a star

nor owning a car

Not from being served liquor in the bar

nor like a graduate of law being admitted into the bar

They are from enjoying the little moment

while it lasts

while it bursts

You see if you have the opportunity to create good moments

Do not hesitate

Because bad ones always know how to find their ways

They do not hesitate.

Story behind the poem

Recently, Kenya has been ranked as the 27th unhappiest country in the world. I do not know the criterion used to come to such a conclusion, but the truth is that happiness is a goal.

While it is a vast topic, happiness can easily be seen, or in other words, it is hard to hide. From a simple smile to the hard contagious laughs, happy moments brighten our moods and make us feel better.

Happiness could qualify as a state of the mind in that it is not strictly dependent on external factors but by what one perceives it to be.

Moments that make us smile and happy should be highly cherished, and we should put effort into creating more of them.

While life can be challenging, it is just as easy to put a smile on someone’s face as it is on ours, for happiness is not far-fetched; it is within us, and we can make it our mandate to unleash it more often.
